You’ve moved to New York in October last year right, why New York?

Yea, so New York was always a big dream for me. Even when I was in middle school I used to always lie and say I was from here. I made up this NYC accent and literally lie on everybody saying I was a New Yorker. It was quite a big step but it was long overdue.

 

Why was it overdue?

Me wanting to move to New York was a dream that I have been having since I was in middle school, it was going to happen regardless. But also I moved because living with my parents in Florida it was hard to be a creative, and a queer creative at that. It’s hard when you live with people you don’t see eye to eye with. Next to this, for me Florida just isn’t it, for me it’s way more freeing and inspirational to live in a place like New York where you are surrounded with likeminded people

What’s been making you happy ever since you’ve lived here?

My home is just such a safe space for me, I’m not in fight or flight mode like I was back in Florida. Ever since I moved here I gained so many opportunities, just this interview alone, I would’ve never been in contact with you guys if I didn’t move to New York. It’s just a reminder everyday of how good this step was. I think it’s such a big step for people to move out of their hometown, like, you need to save for that, you need to plan it.

Did you save up?

Not really, before I came here I was in Miami. I was raving and couch surfing, together with my friends we’d sleep in houses of people that we met at raves. We were just everywhere. Through me being homeless, I started a Gofundme and got some funds through there which brought me to be able to move to NYC.

It was basically like Monopoly, trying to get to the most expensive property.

For me that was my way to moving
to New York.

But when I came to New York, I got these content creator opportunities on Instagram, with an official team and everything which made me be able to afford living here.

How did you land that?

In my time in Miami, I always went to these raves dressed in my favourite outfits and makeup. I kind of dressed like the New York Club Kids and always made these 7 second videos of what I was wearing. I guess that caught the attention of the people I now work with and they just gave me this amazing opportunity.

How did you get into making the content that you create now?

I struggle a lot with social interactions and anxiety with making new social connections. I was bullied a lot in elementary school for being the way I am. They would make fun of me and call me girly girl or that I was gay or something. Meanwhile I was in elementary school, I didn’t even know what that meant. But this gave me a lot of struggle to make like friends and the way to express myself. I feel like art, makeup and fashion really have been tools for me to express how I truly feel.

 

Since when have you been doing your art?

I started doing my makeup in the start of the pandemic, like 2020. I was class of 2020, so I was graduating High School during the pandemic. I’ve started teaching myself makeup and other art forms because I knew I wasn’t going to go to collega or a 9 to 5 job. I knew other things were in store for me, something in fashion or art.

 

Where do you get your inspiration from for your content?

I get a lot of it from TikTok and Reels on Instagram, you can basically set it up where when you see a video you like, they suggest more videos like that, which really helps me to get my feed full of makeup and fashion looks. Also music videos like those from Janet Jackson, Britney Spears and Aaliyah really inspire my work so much. And right now, Willow Smith is definitely one of my favourites.

 

Last but not least, what’s your favourite New York area?

I would say around China Town, cause you can get all the cute Hello Kitty and other Sanrio products there. It’s super cute and has a lot of 99 cents stores where you can find all the cute things from Sanrio.
